Our firm seeks an accredited criminal law specialist with 5 years minimum PAE to join our growing team and growing office.

Your duties will include:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in criminal law.
  • Able to mentor junior lawyers and assist with in-house training and supervision.  
  • Act as an advocate by providing expert legal advice and conducting high level case work in complex serious indictable criminal matters.
  • Appear as a Senior Lawyer in various courts and tribunals, to effectively advocate for Ajak & Associates' clients including County Court Pleas and case management of major indictable trials in the Supreme Court.
  • Supervise and mentor staff in criminal law matters and contribute to professional legal education by assisting in the development and delivery of relevant programs
  • Contribute to the implementation of Ajak & Associates Footscray's office business office and future strategy as an accredited specialist criminal law firm with focus on giving back to the community
  • Represent Ajak & Associates by attending seminars, participating in committees (such as LIV's Criminal Law Section) and liaising with external stakeholders that collaborate with Ajak & Associates in service delivery to our clients
  • Lead community legal education projects, law reform and other Ajak & Associates projects out in the Footscray's office and across Melbourne.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • At least 5 year’s experience in criminal law
  • Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer
  • Substantial knowledge and practical experience in serious major indictable criminal matters
  • Ability to conduct a brief case analysis and provide strategic advice on complex matters and manage client's expectations
  • Ability to supervise, mentor and train staff and contribute to the development of individuals and their knowledge and skills in criminal law.

  • Able to solve problems with common sense

  • Able to handle and time manage multiple tasks in a high-volume environment
